Village for Vets Receives Grant Award from Disabled Veterans National Foundation

Los Angeles, CA - July 12, 2022 - Village for Vets is honored to announce it has received a grant from the Disabled Veterans National Foundation (DVNF) for $20,000 to fund the organization’s Move-in Kit program, expanding the supportive services offered to formerly homeless veterans. Providing Move-In Kits helps to stabilize the Veterans and their families and supports their transition into housing. The kits provide basic household essentials otherwise unavailable to the clients Village for Vets serve.

Mary McGuire, Executive Director of Village for Vets said, “When people who’ve experienced chronic homelessness become housed, they do not have access to basic household necessities such as cookware, bed linens, or even a clean blanket. Purchasing these items helps to turn their new housing into a true home. We are so appreciative to receive this grant from DVNF that helps us continue providing Move-In Kits to this vulnerable community.”

Joseph VanFonda (USMC Sgt.Maj. Ret.), CEO of the Disabled Veterans National Foundation said, “We are very excited to support Village for Vets and their “Move in Program”, these are the type of programs that give the most impact, it's the little needed essentials that make up a home.”

Funding from DVNF will specifically help Village for Vets connect 60 Move-In Kits to at-risk Veterans. Village for Vets provides clients with kits that contain more than 40 household and personal hygiene items including sheets, blankets, towels, cleaning products, kitchen supplies, and toiletries. The kits are distributed by Village for Vets’ team of local volunteers who clean the apartment units, unpack the kits, and help to transform a living space from a blank canvas to a welcoming and livable home.

About the Disabled Veterans National Foundation:

Disabled Veterans National Foundation exists to provide critically needed support to disabled and at-risk veterans who leave the military wounded—physically or psychologically—after defending our safety and our freedom.

DVNF achieves this mission by:

●  Offering direct financial support to veteran organizations that address the unique needs of veterans, and whose missions align with that of DVNF. ●  Providing supplemental assistance to homeless and low-income veterans through the Health & Comfort program and various empowerment resources.

●  Providing an online resource database that allows veterans to navigate the complex process of seeking benefits that they are entitled to as a result of their military service, as well as additional resources they need.

●  Serving as a thought leader on critical policy issues within the veteran community and educating the public accordingly.
