Larry’s Story
This month, we’re honored to share the story of Lawrence Manzo, affectionately known as "Larry," a resilient World War II veteran who, like so many heroes of his generation, has faced tremendous challenges. Recently, Larry found himself at risk of homelessness due to family misunderstandings, leaving him uncertain about his next steps. In search of stability and a place to call home, he turned to Village for Vets and the SSVF (Supportive Services for Veteran Families) program for support.
Through Village for Vets, Larry connected with the dedicated team from VA HUD VASH and the admissions team at CAL VETS Homes on the West LA VA campus. Their combined efforts ensured Larry had access to a range of housing options, resources, and support services. With their guidance, Larry was able to secure a spot at the CAL VETS Home, where he now has a safe and welcoming place to live.
On November 8, 2024, Larry officially moved into his new home at CAL VETS. This milestone marks not only a fresh start for Larry but also a true testament to the power of community, partnership, and compassion. The collaborative efforts of Village for Vets, VA HUD VASH, and CAL VETS have enabled Larry to find the support and sense of belonging he deserves.
Please join us in celebrating Larry’s new chapter and in honoring his service to our country. His journey reminds us of the profound impact we can make together when we stand united to support our veterans.
