When Rodrigo, a U.S. Navy Veteran, joined Village for Vets, he brought with him the same discipline and purpose he learned while serving aboard the USS Nimitz. “I had wanted to serve since I was a Boy Scout, but when 9/11 happened, that was the catalyst,” he said. “The habits, discipline, and organization I learned in the Navy still guide me today.”
After leaving the military, Rodrigo faced a difficult transition to civilian life, including a period of homelessness. “I lived at the domiciliary on the West LA VA campus in 2016,” he shared. “Now, as a Case Manager, I can see that same building from my office. It’s incredible to help Veterans in the same place where I once needed help myself.”
Before joining Village for Vets, Rodrigo worked with Veteran Peer Access Network (VPAN), where he often referred Veterans to Village for Vets’ Emergency Fund. “Village for Vets had a legendary reputation for delivering,” he said. “When I saw an opening, I applied right away.” Since then, he has built a career dedicated to helping Veterans move from crisis to stability, providing guidance, empathy, and hope.
“Asking for help is a tremendous feat, especially for Veterans,” Rodrigo said. “Village for Vets is a lifeline like no other. For someone who is down and out, it’s absolutely life-changing. During the holidays, that means everything.”
This Veterans Day and Giving Season, Rodrigo’s story is a powerful reminder that with the right support, every Veteran can find stability, purpose, and a path home.
